Station Beach – In My Own Backyard

Welcome To My Own Backyard

What better place to start exploring In My Own Backyard than in my “hometown”, Kincardine, Ontario.  The saying “home is where the heart is” has never been truer for me.

I moved away from Kincardine when I finished high school, which has now been 44 years, but as I get older I find that the lake continues to call me home more and more everyday.  Boy, do I ever miss my beach!

Station Beach, Kincardine, Ontario

Kincardine is a small town located in Southwestern Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron, one of Canada’s Great Lakes.

Whenever I return to Kincardine for a visit, I always pay a visit to the Station Beach.  The Station Beach is the perfect place to hang out with family and friends on a warm summer day, and it has become well known across Canada for its surfing and kiting.

The Station Beach offers a front row seat for watching the boats coming in and going out of the Kincardine harbour as well as the most beautiful sunsets in the world.  If you are not a lover of beaches, you can take a break and hike the trail which is completely accessible from the beach,  or drop your line from the south pier and hope that some fish come your way.

Whatever your interests are, Station Beach provides entertainment and activities for the entire family.  The beach is a perfectly safe swimming area for the little ones, and offer activities for all ages and interests.  The beach is never over crowded like many of the tourist beaches in Ontario, and it is the perfect place to spend a day with friends and family.

Station Beach, has remained one of my favorite places to hang out whenever I am visiting In My Own Backyard during the summer months.  Will you be joining me at the beach this summer?

I’m so happy you wrote about your own backyard because it is really beautiful and interesting! I also love my backyard and I think this is a great idea to explore our own hometowns, especially during this unsettling and chaotic time. Thank you very much for the inspiration!

Us travellers are always so busy thinking about where we will visit next, that we often forget to see the beauty right in front of us. Having said that, I still can’t wait to travel again haha.

How cool that we all have someplace that makes home really feel like home. I haven’t visited any of the great lakes before but your pictures are so peaceful.

During quarantine I’ve been exploring my own ‘backyard’, too! (But I live in NYC, so I don’t actually have a backyard.) Thanks for sharing this place this is very special with us!

I would love to spend some time at a beach, especially now. Maybe a very uncrowded beach like Station Beach. Watching the boats go in and out would be nice and relaxing too. It’s a pretty spot for sure. I can see why it calls you.

Station Beach is beautiful! I haven’t spent much time in the Great Lake area, but would love to one of these days. Currently, with limited travel we have been exploring our own backyard. We look forward to the day we can branch out.💕

I love writing about local travel (especially beaches!)- I live just down from you in Michigan 🙂 I loved reading about your “back yard” and checking out your lovely pictures.

Great post. I am blogging about all the places on this planet we have been to and guess what, I don’t have any post about my “own backyard”. But I guess that’s the way it is; we take our own backyard fir granted and often don’t realize its beauty.

I am sooooo a proponent of exploring one’s own backyard. And I love my backyard. I do. But, man oh man, would I love to trade backyards after seeing this beautiful beach!

What a lovely beach you have and that too in your own backyard. It seems to be a beautiful and peaceful family getaway. It must be quite an experience to spend hours on the beach watching the boats. The hiking trail too looks so inviting. You are really lucky to have this beautiful place in your own backyard.

Love beaches like this. Can’t bear the overcrowded ones. It looks just perfect for long strolls. Can you take dogs? I have to say this recent lockdown has encouraged me to explore what’s on my own doorstep.

It’s good to know about backyard travelling is picking up all over the world .. and infact it’s good to promote it as well. Station beach looks like a nice quaint beach near Ontario .. wish I was there that side then could have made a visit there .
