Banff Gondola – Oh What a Ride
I was recently in Banff, Alberta touring around for a few days. Despite everybody telling me that I just had to take the Banff gondola up Sulphur Mountain, I absolutely had no plans or desire to go up that mountain on the gondola! That decision quickly went by the wayside. I made a last-minute decision to stay on the bus and not go back to my hotel, and give the gondala a whirl. Oh what a Ride! I had a blast!!!

I was travelling solo and I am terrified of heights, so this was a real achievement for me to get on this thing. By the time I was half way up, I was mesmerized by the beauty surrounding me and completely oblivious as to the fact that I was over 8,000 feet in the air. I just couldn’t get enough.

Once reaching the top, there is a short video that you can watch if you so choose. I passed, as I just wanted to get back outside to admire the views surrounding me. The beauty was second to none. There is dining available and there is a gift shop up top if you are interested, but I also chose not to do that.

The gondola only takes you part way up to the summit and then there are many stairs which take you the rest of the way up to the summit. If you choose not to climb further, you will still enjoy the incredible beauty. However, if you choose to continue to the summit, you will be rewarded with the most incredible views around. There are benches along the way if you need to take a rest, or just want to sit and admire your surroundings.
I would recommend bringing warmer clothing, as the higher the altitude, the colder and windier it gets. This is also true in the summer months.

In my opinion, this is a must do tourist attraction when in Banff. It was one of the highlights of my trip, and I am so glad that I decided to set aside my fears and take the plunge. Next time, I’ll hike up, as I understand that it’s a fairly easy hike that takes an hour and a half to two hours.
The Banff gondola is one adventure that you won’t want to miss. It is worth every penny.

Hi Kelly
Awsome views from the gondola. I’m glad you came over your fear of heights. I can’t wait to visit Banaff one day it looks so gorgeous out there. I took the sky tram at the trees of mystery in klamath California it took me over the tops of the Redwoods witch was pretty cool if your ever down that way check it out. It’s not as tall as the Banaff gondola. Thanks for sharing.
