There is no denying that one of the highlights of visiting Spain is the food. In this post I’ve recommended the best places to eat in the Catalonia Region of Spain. You won’t find the traditional tourist restaurants here, however, what you will find are restaurants frequented by the locals.

Best Restaurants In The Catalonia Region
In this post you will discover restaurants recommended by the locals which range from budget friendly to Michelin rated places to eat, as well as things you need to know when dining in Spain. I sure hope you’re hungry! I will also link you to what I consider to be one of the best day trips from Barcelona being the Montserrat Cathedral.
Things To Know When Dining In Spain
Before eating at a restaurant when visiting Spain, there a few things to know:
Now that you know what to expect when dining at a restaurant in Catalonia, let’s check out some of the best restaurants that are frequently by the locals.
Montroig Cafe, Sitges, Spain
Carrer Marquès Montroig, 13, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona, Spain
Recommended For Breakfast
![The interior of Montroig Cafe in Sitges Barcelona. One of the best restaurants to eat breakfast in the Catalonia Region.](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Interior-of-Montroig-Cafe-768x1024.jpg)

It is important to note that Spainiards focus on one meal throughout the day. They indulge in this meal anytime between 2:00 and 4:00. Unlike many other parts of the world, breakfast is not a priority, which makes it difficult to find a restaurant that services traditional breakfast food.
Montroig Cafe in Sitgest is one cafe that serves an extensive breakfast. It is extremely busy which can make it difficult to find a seat. The breakfast menu at this restaurant is extensive, which makes it well worth the wait.
While Montroig Cafe does offer a lunch and dinner menu, it appeared to be geared towards the North American traveller. I would recommend this cafe for breakfast and save lunch and/or dinner for a more authentic Spanish dining experience.

Spain is not known for it’s coffee. Coffee lover’s may have a difficult time finding a cup of coffee that they love.

Sushi Gin
Rambla del Garraf, n40-68 local 6P,
08812 Las Roquetes, Barcelona
Recommended For Dinner (late evening)
![The Sushi Gin in Barcelona is the best restaurant to get sushi in the Catalonia Region in Spain.](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Getting-ready-to-try-sushi-at-Sushi-Gin-in-Spain-768x1024.jpg)

The Sushi Gin offers an all you can eat experience. Like the name suggests, the Sushi Gin is a restaurant that serves sushi. As a person who had never tried sushi before, I can assure you that there is something for everyone, even the non-sushi lover.
Drinks, including water, coffee, tea, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are not included in the all you can eat pricing.

La Taberna de El Glop
de Sant LluÃs, 24, Grà cia, 08012 Barcelona, Spain
Recommended For Budget Friendly
![open view cooking at la glop in downtown Barcelona](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/cooking-station-at-la-grop-in-barcelona-768x1024.jpg)
![La Glop offers a choice of 5 different main dishes for lunch](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/lunch-at-la-grop-in-downtown-Barcelona-768x1024.jpg)
As previously noted, the main meal in Spain is served mid afternoon. Many, if not all, of the traditional off-the-beaten-path restaurants in the Catalonia Region serve meals ranging from 3 to 5 courses. The majority of the meals include at least one bottle of wine in the price, and El Glop is no exception.
Of all the Catalonia restaurants I visited, El Glop was the most budget friendly. You can expect to be served four courses of authentic Catalonian food at this establishment, which also includes one bottle of wine. You will be given a choice of salads or soup for starters, a main meal which consists of a Catalonian dish, and a desert. Water, coffee, tea, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are extra (with the exception of one bottle of wine).
If you’re looking for an authentic Catalonian dining experience which is budget friendly, then El Glop is the best restaurant in the Catalonia Region.

la Sala de l’Isaac: Best Restaurant To Eat In The Catalonia Region
Carrer Barceloneta, 44, 17124 Llofriu, Girona, Spain
Recommended For Upscale Dining
![Beautiful interior of la Sala de l'Isaac, one of the best places to eat in the Catalonia Region.](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/interior-of-la-Sala-de-lIsaac-768x1024.jpg)

For an upscale authentic Meditteranean dining experience, you won’t want to miss la Sala de l’Isaac! There is definitely a reason why this restaurant was Michelin rated in 2022.
Surrounded by Spanish ambiance, you will be treated to six courses of delectible food. Since there were four of us dining, two bottles of wine were also included. Again, as in all restaurants in Spain, there is an extra charge for water, coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, with the exception of the wine. Are you beginning to see a pattern here 🙂 ?
The food, service, and ambiance, made this to my list of one of the best places to eat in the Catalonia Region.

Ca l’Agut
d’en Gignà s, 16, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
Recommended For A Budget Friendly Meal
The Ca l’Agut is a small gem that’s hidden within the Gothic Quarters of Barcelona. The Gothic Quarters is a lively hub of people, music, unique shops, and good food, all situated in the heart of Barcelona.
Ca L’Agut is a lively restaurant which offers authentic Catalonia cuisine. It’s the ideal spot to take a break and enjoy the daily menu which consists of five courses of delectibe Catalonian food….and yes….a bottle of wine.

Cabure Gastrobar
Sant Pere de Ribes
Recommended For An Authentic Catalonian Dining Experience

![](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Cabure-a-real-Spanish-gem.jpg)
The Cabure Gastrobar is a small hole in the wall restaurant which is largely frequented by the locals. The restaurant is located in the small town of Sant Pere de Ribes, which is a short 10 minute drive from Sitgest. You certainly won’t find any tourists at this gem!
The ambiance of the restaurant is exactly what you would expect when dining at an authentic Spanish restaurant…..small, quaint, excellent service, and even better food! The seven courses of food and two bottles of wine (included), will definitely have you bursting at the seams! Needless to say, this was my favourite dining experience during my time spent in the Catalonia Region of Spain.

Typical Spanish Home Cooked Meal
Recommended For A Night At Home
When visiting Spain, sometimes you need to take a break from all of the restaurant food. If you want to experience a typical home-cooked meal, sausage cooked on a wood burning bbq is the thing to try. Partner the sausage with boiled/sauteed navy beens, and a toasted baguette rubbed with garlic, the juice from a tomato, topped with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt.

El Kapritkxo
Carrer Nou, 14, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona, Spain
Recommended For Tapas
![El Kapritkxo is a lively tapa restaurant located in downtown Sitges. It's a must visit when in the Catalonia Region](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/enjoying-late-night-tapas-in-the-Catalonia-Region-of-Spain.jpg)
![You'll find tapas as far as the eye can see at El Kapritkxo tapa bar in Sitges.](https://justonepassport.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tapas-in-Sitges-768x1024.jpg)
It goes without saying that you can’t visit Spain without trying the tapas! El Kapritkxo has an abundance of choices when it comes to tapas. This restaurant can be found on one of the narrow side streets in downtown Sitges. Be prepared to wait, as it’s lively atmosphere and large choice of tapas draws tourists and locals alike.
The price you pay all depends on what you eat. Make sure you save the toothpicks and at the end of the meal the waiter will count how many tapas you’ve eaten and that determines the price you will pay. Unlike other meals, the wine is not included, nor is water, or other drinks.
