Next time you’re in the mood to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, I highly recommend that you spend a day exploring everything that the small hamlet of Glen Williams has to offer. This small picturesque village nestled in the heart of Ontario’s countryside in the Region of Halton Hills, offers quaint streets, historic charm, and an array of activities to enjoy. Glen Williams promises to be a serene escape just a short drive from Toronto.
How To Spend A Perfect Day In Glen Williams
In this blog post, I’ll guide you through a perfect day in Glen Williams, including things to do and where to eat. Are you ready to fall in love with another Ontario small town? Let’s get started!
Getting To Glen Williams
Getting to Glen Williams is a fairly easy drive and takes approximately 58 minutes from Toronto. It can be found situated amoung the rolling hills of Halton County.
Explore the Village of Glen Williams
Glen Williams is a village with a rich history and unique character. Once arriving in Glen Williams begin your day by strolling through its charming streets and admiring the well-preserved 19th-century architecture.
The homes are so well-kept, quaint, and old, I could have easily spent an entire day just taking in the beauty of the homes, however, there are many other highlights to see, which include:
Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre
Begin your morning at the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre, a historic complex that houses art studios and galleries. Browse through the diverse works of local artists and get inspired by the creativity on display.
Just One Tip: I recommend walking around to the back of the building as many of the shops aren’t accessible from the main street.
Shelagh Law Parkette
If you’re travelling with family or simply want a quiet spot to relax, Shelagh Law Parkette is the perfect place. There are a few picnic tables, and the calming presence of the Credit River make for the ideal spot for a break.
The Shelagh Law Parkette is located at the entrance of the village. Parking is difficult to find, so I recommend parking here as it’s only a two minute walk to the artists shops and the Copper Kettle Pub and Restaurant.
Just One Tip: If you’re looking to save money or enjoy a quiet lunch, bring a picnic. The park has a few picnic tables, lots of shade and it’s the perfect spot to rest and even take a nap (don’t forget to bring a blanket).
Glen Williams Glass Gallery
Delve into the world of glass art at the Glen Williams Glass Gallery. Marvel at intricate glasswork and perhaps even purchase a unique piece as a souvenir.
If you visit at the right time, you will have the opportunity to watch the glass makers at work creating their masterpieces.
Just One Tip: Not all of the glass blowers appreciate having their picture taken. Ask first and respect their wishes.
Historic Walking Tour
Take a self-guided historic walking tour to learn more about the village’s past. Don’t forget to download a map before leaving on your road trip to Glen Williams.
Savor Local Flavors In Glen Williams
I have to admit that this was my favourite part of the day. Even though Glen Williams has a small population of only 2,700 people, the restaurants do get busy. I recommend planning your meal around the off-time.
Copper Kettle Pub
For a traditional pub experience, head to the Copper Kettle Pub. Enjoy classic pub fare and a selection of craft beers in a cozy atmosphere.
This is the restaurant that I ate at and the food was delicious, the atmosphere was lively, and the service was spectacular.
Glen Oven Cafe
If you prefer a lighter lunch, visit Glen Oven Cafe for freshly baked goods, sandwiches, and aromatic coffee. Their outdoor patio is perfect for soaking in the village’s ambiance.
Shopping and Antiquing
When visiting the hamlet of Glen Williams, a visit to The Glen Girl is an absolute must! Sara and her mom are eager to share their story and the process involved in creating beautiful clothing, designed by Sara, and dried flower arrangements, created by Sara’s mom.
Visit The Glen Girl to learn about their beautiful creations!
Crawford’s Village Bakery and Main Street Market
You won’t want to miss a visit to Crawford’s Village Bakery, where you can purchase delicious baked goods, including butter tarts and artisan bread, to take home as a tasty souvenir, or relax in the outdoor sitting area before heading home.
Antiques and Boutiques
Wander through the village’s quaint antique shops and boutiques, where you might stumble upon unique treasures and vintage finds. Glen Williams boasts one of the largest antique shops that I’ve come across, so if you’re into antiques, this stop is a must.
Credit Valley Conservation Area
While I didn’t have the time to stop at the Credit Valley Conservation Area, nature lovers can enjoy the hiking trails along the Credit River. What better way to end your day before heading back home?
