If you’re craving independence, a whole lot of sunshine, and a little something to boost your energy, then keep reading. These are the best things to do alone in Los Cabos, which will make your solo trip unforgettable.

I had visited Mexico numerous times before, but never alone and always on the side of the Mayan Riviera. I had always wanted to visit Los Cabos. In 2018, the opportunity finally arose and I jumped at it. It was only my second international solo trip and I was a bit skeptical about travelling to this part of Mexico by myself. Once I arrived, I realized how baseless my worries were. I realized that Los Cabos was a safe place for a solo traveller like myself.

Los Cabos has exceptional infrastructure, it’s extremely clean, and surprisingly very safe, but best of all, it offered so many great things that I was able to do alone, which I’ll share with you now.

Relax On The Beach Without an Agenda

It is true that there aren’t near as many beaches in this part of Mexico as there are on the Mayan side as the ocean water is much rougher than that of the Caribbean. Having said that, there are still many beaches where you can relax. Most resorts have their own beach – some of which are swimmable and some aren’t.

After participating in all of the activities that Los Cabos has to offer, you will want to set aside at least one day just to hang out on the beach.

If you want to wander off of your resort searching for a lively atmosphere with beach clubs and restaurants nearby, then Medano Beach is the perfect choice. It’s located in downtown Cabo San Lucas. The beaches calm water makes it perfect for swimming, parasailing, or jet skiing.

If you prefer a quieter day at the beach, then Chileno Bay is the beach you want. Located along the tourist corridor of Los Cabos, Chileno Bay is known to be the best swimmable beach in the area. If a day of snorkelling and relaxation is on the agenda, then this is the best option.

Take a Boat Tour to El Arco: The Best Things To Do Alone In Los Cabos

taking a boat tour to El Arco is one of the best things to do when visiting Los Cabos

The best advice that I got before visiting Los Cabos was to “get out on the water“. I was told that it was a whole different world out there. Naturally, a tour on the water was my first adventure in Los Cabos and it didn’t disappoint.

Taking a boat tour to El Arco, the iconic rock formation at Land’s End is one of the most popular things to do when visiting Los Cabos. Taking a tour is also a great way to meet other travellers so you don’t feel so alone.

Book A Spa Day Or Wellness Experience

I admit that I’m not one to spend time at a spa when I’m travelling as I can do this at home. Having said that, Los Cabos is known for its luxury, and treating yourself is one of the most rewarding things to do alone in Los Cabos.

Many resorts offer spa treatments, such as a massage on the beach, as well as wellness experiences, such as beachfront yoga. If your resort doesn’t offer these amenities, many resorts offer day passes to their spas so you’re still able to indulge.

Solo travel doesn’t mean avoiding people entirely. In fact, the best way to meet people from around the world is to take tours when you’re travelling. When I was in Los Cabos, I took three different tours and met people on all of them. If you’re looking to take a tour, some of the best things to do alone in Los Cabos include group activities like:

These experiences can be booked online ahead of time or through the concierge at your resort.

Explore Downtown San Jose del Cabo

exploring downtown San Jose del Cabo is a safe solo activity when visiting Los Cabos

While Cabo San Lucas is the tourist hub and is the center of the action, for a more cultural experience, I recommend exploring downtown San Jose del Cabo. Walking through its historic downtown is one of the most underrated things to do alone in Los Cabos.

A leisurely day strolling the Art District, browsing the local boutiques, or enjoying a quiet meal at a café will give you a sense of the culture found in this part of Mexico.

Just One Tip: I recommend visiting San Jose del Cabo on a Thursday into the evening, as there is a weekly Art Walk which is a great way to experience the town when you’re travelling solo

Enjoy Solo Dining

Mealtimes is often the scariest time for solo travellers, but dining alone in Los Cabos is surprisingly comfortable. Many of the restaurants are used to solo travellers and offer bar seating or cozy patio tables.

Some of my favorite solo dining experiences included fresh seafood with an ocean view in downtown Cabo San Lucas and casual spots visited while on a tour. Striking up conversations with the locals and other tourists felt completely natural to me when visiting Los Cabos.

Go on a Self-Guided Or Guided Adventure Day

If you feel comfortable renting a car and exploring the area on your own, consider taking a day trip from Los Cabos. Places like Santa Maria Beach or Palmilla Beach are perfect for a low-key adventure day. This kind of freedom allows you to design the best things to do alone in Los Cabos exactly how you want.

If this is your first international solo trip or you don’t feel confident to explore on your own, there are many tours that offer day trips from Los Cabos.
