3 Day Itinerary in Bora Bora, Paridise Among the French Polynesian Islands
Where Is Bora Bora in the French Polynesia?
Bora Bora is a small island located in the South Pacific Ocean, northwest of Tahiti and approximately 160 miles northwest of Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. Known for its turquoise lagoon, stunning coral reef, and white sand beaches, Bora Bora is a popular destination for honeymooners, celebrities, and luxury travellers seeking an exotic and relaxing getaway.
If you’re planning a trip to Bora Bora, I’ve put together a 3-day itinerary to help you make the most of your time on this magical island. From swimming with stingrays to exploring the island’s lush interior, here are my recommendations for how to spend your time in Bora Bora.
Just One Tip: When taking inter-island flights, the planes are small and it’s important to keep in mind that there are severe weight restrictions, which are less than the weight for international flights. You will have to pack extra.
When Is The Best Time to Visit Bora Bora
Before I dive into the itinerary, let’s talk about the best time to visit Bora Bora. The island has a tropical climate, with sunshine and hot temperatures year-round.

Best Time To Visit
The best time to visit is from May to October when the weather is dry and comfortable, with temperatures in the mid-80s. November to April is the rainy season, with occasional heavy downpours, humidity, and temperatures in the upper 80s. Keep in mind that peak season is from June to August and December to January, meaning higher hotel rates and crowds.
Arriving to Bora Bora From Moorea
After spending a few days in Moorea, it’s time to head over to Bora Bora – the true epitome of paradise. You can take a domestic flight directly from Moorea to Bora Bora, or a ferry from Moorea to Tahiti, and then catch a flight to Bora Bora. Make sure to double-check flight schedules as they change frequently.
Just One Tip: If flying to Bora Bora from Moorea, grab a seat on the left side of the plane for spectacular views.
The quickest way to reach Bora Bora from Moorea is by plane. There are daily flights which take approximately 45 minutes.
3 Day Itinerary In Bora Bora
- Depart Moorea – Arrive in Bora Bora and Relaxation
- 3 Nights at Le Bora Bora Peal Resorts
- Adventure and Island Tours
- Relax at Le Bora Bora By Pearl Resorts
- Depart For Tahiti Airport
- Depart For Toronto
Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation in Bora Bora
After a short flight to Bora Bora from Moorea, settle into your luxurious overwater bungalow and enjoy the stunning view of the turquoise lagoon. Take a dip in the crystal-clear water, snorkel among the colorful fish, and soak up the sun on the deck. In the evening, savor a delicious Polynesian dinner while admiring the sunset and the starry sky.
Day 2: Adventure & Sightseeing in Bora Bora
For the second day of your unforgettable trip, embark on a thrilling excursion, such as parasailing, jet skiing, or shark and ray feeding. Or, if you prefer a more laid-back activity, take a romantic helicopter tour and marvel at the beauty of Bora Bora from above. In the evening, enjoy a private dinner on the beach, complete with candlelight, rose petals, and Champagne, and toast to the memories you’ve made.
Day 2: Jetskiing Adventure
On my second day, I opted to go on a jetskiing adventure. I had never been and I thought “what better place than in paradise”. This exhilarating tour lasted approximately 3 hours. I was picked up directly at my resort and taken to the tour head-quarters where I was given a quick lesson on driving a jetski.
The guides are experienced and there were no more than 4 jetskis per guide. This allowed for lots of personal attention which was very much needed.
Part way through the trip, we “docked” in the middle of a lagoon alongside the St. Regis Resort and indulged in a buffet of fresh fruit served directly on the jetski.
Tours can be booked at the resort, however, I pre-booked my tour online prior to leaving for Bora Bora. Keep in mind that all tours books up fast, so the earlier you book the less chance of disappointment.
Day 2: Evening Island Exploration By 4 Wheel Drive
I ended my day with a Sunset and champagne 4 wheel drive tour around the island. The 4 wheel drive travelled up Oh My God Road where we had a birds eye view of the iconic Mount Otemanu. I was able to watch the sun go down while sipping a glass (or 2) of champagne.
Oldest Temple in Bora Bora
We also visited the oldest temple on the island, as well as the oldest church, however, the primary purpose of the tour was to view Mount Otemanu from the best location on the island. The guide provided us with an abundance of history and humour throughout the tour which kept us immensely entertained.
This tour came as part of my package which I booked through GoWay Travel, but it can also be booked in advance prior to departure for Bora Bora.
Day 3: A Day of Relaxation Before the Long Flight Home
On the last day in Bora Bora, take the time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the island. Lounge on the white sand beaches, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, and soak up the sun.
Treat yourself to a spa day or a massage under the swaying palm trees. In the evening, indulge in a farewell dinner of fresh seafood and tropical cocktails, and reflect on the memories you’ve made during your 3-day paradise escape.
Bora Bora, with its stunning natural beauty and vibrant culture, is truly a unique island paradise that must be experienced to be believed. Whether you’re seeking adventure, romance, or relaxation, this itinerary is designed to give you a taste of what this magical place has to offer.
So pack your bags, and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey to French Polynesia’s crown jewel.
3 Blissful Days In Bora Bora: In Conclusion …
With just three days in Bora Bora, you are still able to experience the best the island has to offer. From exploring the island’s lush landscapes to enjoying the watersports and relaxing on the beaches, Bora Bora is a real paradise for adventure seekers
Getting from Bora Bora to Toronto, Ontario
Getting home from Bora Bora will all depend on where home is. My home was Toronto, and it was a difficult and long journey home.
The resort I stayed at was Le Bora Bora By Pearl Resorts which is situated on one of the tolls in Bora Bora. The resort boat took me directly to the Bora Bora airport. I then flew from Bora Bora to Tahiti, which is the airport that all flights will depart from.
The flight from Tahiti to Los Angeles was 8 hours, however it flew throughout the evening which made travel much nicer. I had a connecting flight in Los Angeles to Calgary and another connecting flight from Calgary to Toronto.
Just One Tip: If you have a connecting flight in Los Angeles, I would recommend ensuring that you have at least 3 hours between flights. Air Tahiti Nui does not partner with all airlines and it may be necessary to collect your baggage, go through customs, leave the airport to the check-in counter and re-check your baggage and go through customs again. 2 hours definitely wasn’t enough time.

I hope you enjoyed your 3 days in paradise 🙂

PIN 3 DAY ITINERARY IN BORA BORA
I loooooove Bora Bora as it was on my bucket list for a loooong time. We ended up doing couch surfing in Bora Bora ( with a French Vet), Moorea ( with a local) and that just added to the joy. It is on my list to return for a long stay so this post brought back great memories. \
Bora Bora had been a dream that I thought I’d never get to fullfill as I travel solo and we all know how expensive Bora Bora is! When a friend asked if I’d be interested I jumped at the chance. It was definitely beautiful exactly how I pictured it, however, I also went to Moorea and I fell in love with that island. I’definitely go back there for a much longer stay!
Is three days enough in such a beautiful spot as Bora Bora? While relaxation is a must on a tropical island, I also like that there are some opportunities for adventure. I really want to make it to the South Pacific one day!
Three days is rather short in Bora Bora but I understand this was part of your French Polynesia trip and you’ve also spend some time on the other islands. The jet ski tour would be more my thing (the honeymoon stuff and romantic activities aren’t really engaging for me) as this is more adventurous and a bit of thrill. It’s insane how much planning and time it actually takes to reach this remote place, but from your pictures it truly looks divine and worth all the efforts getting there.
Carolin | Solo Travel Story
It was short, but honestly I wouldn’t want to spend more than 3 days in Bora Bora. I would have like an extra day in Moorea though and if I was to do it all again, I’d stay another few days to explore one of the other islands.
Oh this looks heavanly!
If I could only snap my fingers and be there instantly. Lovely photos ❤️
Yes. It’s beautiful but sooo difficult to get to. I’ll only be doing that trip once. lol
Ha! I get that. Hence why we haven’t been (yet). It was the same travelling to the Maldives. The trick is to make the stopover destinations a trip in themselves so you are not just making your way to the final destination, you’re creating a long itinerary of multiple trips. I call them stopover vacations 🤪
Bora Bora is a travel destination on my bucket list that I can’t wait to visit. Great suggestions on things to do and very helpful information on the best time to go.
It was number 1 on my list for years. I can now check it off. It was everything I’d ever dreamt of and even more!
I love the idea of the jet ski tour. Very fun, and so nice that there are not huge groups so you really get the personal attention. Good to know about the small inter island planes- how long is the ferry as an alternative? I wouldn’t have guessed at the best time of year to visit so that’s good to know too. Everything in reading of yours about these islands is making me want to visit more
The ferry from Tahiti to Moorea was almost 45 minutes. I’m not sure there are ferries for the other islands. The flight from Moorea to Bora Bora was 45 min to an hour.
Omg I don’t know how you left Bora Bora in three days! I wouldn’t want to leave at all. It’s nice that you got to relax before and after the adventure. The pictures look absolutely idyllic. I want to be as happy as you are in these pics 🙂
It was difficult to leave that’s for sure. It truly was just like I envision paradise to be like. Believe me that I needed that 1 day rest before the 36 hours it took to get home lol.
Ahhh Bora Bora is one of my top bucket list destinations! Thanks for all the helpful info!
It was mine as well! It was totally worth the $$$ and distance to get there! I hope you get the chance to go sometime.
This itinerary has everything you need to enjoy your stay on the island in a short amount of time. There are so many things to do and so many interesting activities, that having this post with tips is a precious help.
I loved the photos where we can see you enjoying the experience. We can feel your enthusiasm and happiness!
It was a ton of fun! The scenery was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!
Good itinerary and looks like I would enjoy pursuing this. I enjoy the photos you have included of yourself which helps bring it to life. Goo suggests booking the tour online as it can leave some people disappointed when they show up expecting to get a place on the tour and it’s booked out! I am yet to brave the jetski but someday I will. Who knows maybe it will be in Bora Bora
This was my first time jetskiing. It was a lot of fun, but I likely won’t be doing it again anytime soon. The lagoons were so calm. I live on one of the great lakes which is extremely rough. You need to be experienced to jetski out there.
Wow, Bora Bora looks absolutely dreamy! Definitely adding to my travel bucket list 🙂
It was on my bucket list since I was a little girl. Check that one off! It was everything I thought it would be and even more.
It looks like there are so many activities to enjoy on Bora Bora. We would love to have a go at jet-skiing (the jet-ski buffet looked fun!) and parasailing, as well as seeing the sharks and rays. We’d also really enjoy exploring the island, particularly visiting the temple and learning about the history of the area. Sounds like you had an entertaining guide too.
The jetskiing was a blast and the fruit buffet in the middle of the lagoon was so cool. He picked the fruit right from the trees on shore. So fresh!
This 3 day itinerary looks ideal. I would have no idea what to do here without some serious research so this is a great introduction to the island.
I’ve never jetskied so that would be something I would definitely want to do and the 4 wheel drive island exploration also sits well with me.
Some lovely photos here that encapsulates the scenery well – it certainly entices me to want to explore it.
Even though I grew up 100 feet from the lake, I had never jetskied either lol. It was so much fun and a great way to see the outskirts of the island.
Great information and very interesting facts!
Would love to visit Bora Bora 🙂
Thank you. Bora Bora is a beautiful island and a once in a lifetime experience!
Eating off a jetski seems so cool! I would love to go to Bora Bora!
It was definitely a trip of a lifetime! One more to cross off the bucketlist

I didn’t get the massage, but I can certainly vouch for the overwater bungalows. I’ve never seen anything like them
