Welcome to In My Own Backyard

Welcome back to this week’s edition of In My Own Backyard.

I have lived in the Brant County area for the majority of my life, and I had no idea until last year that I had a lavender farm right here in my own backyard (notwithstanding that I drove right by the street that it was on every weekend).

I have seen many pictures on Instagram of lavender farms and I have always wanted to see one, so I googled.  Low and behold there it was!  Literally in my own backyard!

The Lavender Farm – In My Own Backyard

The Lavender Farm has been in the family since 1882 when Bob’s grandparents began farming.  In 1970 Bob and his new wife Barb, moved in and began farming the land.  With the farming markets rapidly declining, Bob and Barb were left with a farm and barns and weren’t sure what to do with them and where they went from here.  In 2011, they planted their first 600 lavender plants, and have continued to expand the lavender fields ever since.

When visiting The Lavender Farm, your senses will be filled with the heavenly smell of lavender. If you are having a difficult time leaving the smell, you can visit the small store on site to purchase some homemade lavender products.

If you fall in love with this lavender farm like I did, you can say your I Do’s in the middle of the lavender field and celebrate the beginning of your new life in one of the barns.   Lavender fields are where dreams can come true.

Thank you for joining me this week In My Own Backyard.  If you are in the area, you might also be interested in visiting one of Ontario’s largest cities.

I’m off to explore some more In My Own Backyard.  Remember to take time to stop and smell the lavender……until next week!

  4. I love lavendar – so pretty….and good against moths. I also like it in French food from Provence. However, the other day, I put lavendar in suger to ‘infuse’ it….yap, it sure is infused, very infused, very very infused. It’s a bit like chewing a lavendar stalk.

  5. I really love your adventures in your backyard, and I think this one is my favorite, so far! I just love that this sweet couple planted these lavender plants and now have this lovely place to share. I’d love to know what kind of lavender products are in the store. Do they have a website where we can take a look?

  6. Looks like such a beautiful spot! We have a tulip festival in April and a sunflower festival in August here in Vancouver, but I would love to go to a lavender farm! Must smell soooo good 🙂

    1. I would LOVE to be able to go to the sunflower festival in August! I have always wanted to visit a sunflower field and I wasn’t aware that you had them in Vancouver. If will definitely be going next time I’m out there.
