What Is Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a natural way to use water to relieve discomfort and provide a natural way of detoxing and healing aches and pains.
Benefits Of Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy offers a wide range of benefits for both physical and mental well-being, some of which are:
- Pain Relief: Warm water and hydrotherapy jets can alleviate muscle tension, reduce joint pain, and soothe soreness, offering relief from conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia.
- Improved Circulation: Hydrotherapy can enhance blood circulation, aiding in better oxygen flow to tissues and promoting overall cardiovascular health.
- Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Immersion in water has a calming effect, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and promoting relaxation. The warm water can trigger the release of endorphins, enhancing mood.
- Muscle Rehabilitation: Hydrotherapy is often used in physical therapy to aid in muscle recovery after injuries or surgeries. The buoyancy of water reduces the impact on joints while allowing for gentle exercise and rehabilitation.
- Detoxification: Sweating induced by hydrotherapy can help flush toxins from the body, supporting detoxification processes.
- Improved Sleep: The relaxation induced by hydrotherapy can lead to better sleep quality for many individuals, promoting a sense of restfulness and aiding in insomnia relief.
- Enhanced Skin Health: Soaking in mineral-rich waters can help improve skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema while hydrating and nourishing the skin.
- Immune System Support: Some studies suggest that regular hydrotherapy sessions may have a positive impact on the immune system, potentially increasing the body’s ability to fight off illnesses.
- Respiratory Benefits: Steam and warm water can help alleviate respiratory issues like congestion and sinus problems by opening up airways and promoting easier breathing.
These benefits highlight the diverse ways in which hydrotherapy can positively impact both the body and mind, making it an effective holistic treatment option.
CAUTION: Hydrotherapy should not be used for those who are affected by a cold, infections, cardiovascular disease, or skin conditions.
Experience Hydrotherapy At The Living Shore Spa
Collingwood and The Blue Mountains are well-known for the Scandanavia Spa, which offers a beautiful outdoor setting, however, few are familiar with the bliss that awaits you at the Living Shore Spa. I highly recommend spending at least 24 hours in the Collingwood area so that you have time to experience Ontario’s only aquapath.
Upon your arrival and check-in, you will be escorted to the fully equiped change rooms where you will change into your swimsuits. Robes and slippers are provided and are available in the change rooms.
Once you are dressed and ready for your experience, relax in the serene lounge with a tea or water and wait for your guide to appear.
Aquapath Stations At The Living Shore Spa
The Living Shore Spa offers eight aquapath stations:
- Detoxifying Mineral Bath: The detoxifying minderal bath, similar to a hot tub, is designed to pull the toxins from your skin.
- 4-Stage Waterfall Benches: Rest on the benches of 4 different waterfalls. Each waterfall targets different pressure points of the body.
- Eucalyptus Steam Sauna: The eucalyptus steam sauna is designed to benefit your respiratory system and overall mood. I did find the sauna extremely hot and I wasn’t able to remain for the entire time.
- Glacier Shower: The glacier shower is designed to regulate your body temperature after spending time in the sauna. Yes, it’s cold!
- River Walk: As a person who has problems with achey feet, I loved the river walk and found it to be extremely beneficial. Walk through two streams of water, one hot and one warmer. The pebbles act as both reflexology and a massage on your feet.
- Replenishing Mineral Bath: Relax in the replenishing mineral bath and let the jets from above provide a massage on your head and shoulders.
- Exfoliation Tub: The exfoliation tub was definitely my favourite station! To end your session, relax in one of the four exfoliating tubs and rejuvenate your skin with a citrus scrub.
- Rain-head Shower: End your aquapath experience by rinsing off before returning to the lounge.
How It Works
Your guide will guide you through the eight stations and you will immediately begin to feel relaxed. After you complete the cycle of the eight stations, you will feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and hopefully will be experiencing less pain.
Each station offers either a hot, cold, or warm experience. You will be left in solitude to enjoy each station. After a few minutes in each station, your guide will return to lead you onto the next station.
The last station is my absolute favourite. You immerse yourself in a deep, warm tub and are provided sea salt in order to exfoliate your body.
Once your time is up, your guide will return and lead you back to the lounge, where you can relax and enjoy a cold cup of water.
When you’ve acquired the energy to leave, return to the changerooms where you’ll find showers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hair dryers.

This does look very peaceful and relaxing. I would love to try it.
It was heaven! I was so relaxed when I was done. I just wanted to sleep lol.
Always wanted to try this spa! Looks amazing.
It was great. I liked it better than the Scandanavia because it was only me and the 2 girls I went with that were in there.
