For museum lovers and history buffs visiting the beautiful small town of Kincardine, you’re in luck! The Walker House is one of Kincardine’s historic and hidden gems known about mostly by the locals. So if you’ve found this post, you’ll now know about one of only two museums in the town of Kincardine. The second museum is located directly across the street from the Walker House in the iconic Kincardine lighthouse.

Along with the Walker House in Kincardine, the Kincardine Lighthouse and Museum is the only other museum in town.

Just One Tip: Museum lovers will want to visit the Goderich Jail, just a short 45 minute drive along Lake Huron.

Getting To The Walker House

Location: 235 Harbour Street, Kincardine, Ontario

The Walker House is easy to find as Kincardine is a small town. To find the museum, all you have to do is head towards the harbour from the main street and you’ll come across a yellow house on the corner of Harbour Street and Penetangore Row, directly across from the Kincardine lighthouse and the Inn at the Harbour (which is the perfect spot to spend the night 🙂 .

There is no parking available directly at the Walker House. I recommend parking at the Station Beach or follow the “parking” signs from the main street of Kincardine. Both parking areas are free of charge and a very short walk to the Walker House.

A Brief History Of The Walker House

The Walker House Museum is a hidden gem tucked away in downtown Kincardine and is widely known only by the locals

The Walker House has been a significant landmark in Kincardine since its construction by Francis “Paddy” Walker in 1850. The house was originally occupied as the town’s Inn, and it remains the oldest building in Kincardine to this day.

In 1995 the Walker House suffered significant fire damage which rendered it unusable. In 1998, some of the town folk (which included my mother) formed what was known as the Paddy Walker Society to restore this historic gem to it’s original splendor.

Walker House Restored

After 10 years of hard work and countless volunteer hours, the Walker House once again opened its doors to the public. Both my mom and dad poured a lot of blood sweat and tears into the renovation and once completed, it was a great source of pride for both of them. My mother loved this building so much that we opted to celebrate her life here upon her passing.

This magnificent structure has witnessed the growth and transformation of the town over the years, and stands as a testament to history and a reminder of Kincardine’s heritage.

An Immersive Experience

As you walk through the door of this ancient historic gem, you will immediately be greeted by a friendly host, who will gladly answer any questions that you may have and will eagerly share the history of Paddy Walker.

View remnants of Kincardine’s past, as well as the history of the town’s incredibly successful sports teams, as you wander through the rooms spread over two floors of this magnificant museum.

Hours of operation are 9:00am -4:00pm every day except Tuesday’s. If you would like to book a tour please use this link https://calendly.com/thewalkerhousemuseum/museum-tour For all other inquires you can call the Walker House at 519-396-1850 or email @[email protected]

The Industry Room At The Walker House

The Industry Room is open Wednesdays 4pm-9pm, Thursdays 4pm-10pm and Fridays & Saturdays 4pm-11pm. Reservations for the Industry Room are required and can be made by visiting the Walker House facebook page.
